Hello Autumn.

I’m very excited that the cooler months have finally arrived Downunder.

This means wearing coats, jumpers, scarves and hats; it means boots and umbrellas and sometimes wellies. It means that boys will be more well-dressed, and that I won’t look like a mess every time I go outside. I don’t do very well with heat – I was definitely made for colder climes.

At the moment I’m pining for a neutral, laid-back vibe for my winter wardrobe, but as with all instances in which I long for minimalism, I’ll probably get it wrong.

But, I’m loving Gorman’s Winter collection (as always), with’s it’s cosy knits, pretty dresses, surprising prints and bursts of colour. I’m also a huge fan of the menswear-for-women feeling that Vanishing Elephant have mastered in their Winter collection – it has seen me wearing my chinos/slacks more often, and searching for more pairs to add to the two I own. I’m also hunting for shirts and brogues…

I’d love to add a touch of forest green to my wardrobe (in the form of these Gorman heels perhaps), and am finding the challenge of finding winter-appropriate dresses to be a challenge.

Either way, I’m excited to get my wardrobe stocked up and in working order!

How are you planning to brave the winter months (if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere)?

Or if you’ve already successfully navigated through winter in the Northern Hemisphere – any tips?

Life in technicolour

The other day, a friend texted me a picture of herself in red shoes + black and white stripes. Caption: “I feel like Dorothy. Or the witch!”

I immediately realised that I too was dressed in a very Oz-inspired outfit – a little bit munchkin and large amount technicolour.

No matter what they say, never give up on wearing colour!

Clutch-ing at…

I was lucky enough to be treated to a lime-delicious and glittery clutch (courtesy of Mother) from Mimco.

I’m pretty obsessed with it – the combination of a mother of pearl-look finish in a chartreuse/green neon, plus silvery glitter is fantastic.

That’s all I have to say really… but it goes very nicely with my silver glitter shoes from Wittner… ;)

Green, mean, and everything in between.

Right now, I am obsessed with forest green.

Don’t ask me why, but I think perhaps these cute as Jeffrey Campbell shows that appeared on Park & Cube may have something to do with it:

Now, that colour is all I can think about. It’s been popping up a lot in street style snaps, and has been cropping up on runways and in stores as the Winter lines creep in.

It even appeared on my blog a few weeks ago…

And then I spent my evening searching for it on Pinterest, online stores, blogs… *Sigh* I think I have every item of clothing I could possibly want for a while and then suddenly a new obsession hits me out of the blue. Damn you fashion!

The best fashion blog in the whole world?

Move over stick-thin, dip-dyed hair fashion bloggers: there’s a new guy in town, and he is ready to blow your socks off. Or maybe chew them up.

Seeing a dog wearing stylish clothing was probably the best thing that has ever popped up in my news feed in Facebook. Thanks, Pedestrian, for finding what is to be the next biggest thing in fashion blogging.

While ‘Menswear Dog‘, as he calls himself, is new to the online world (probably still battling with the challenges of using a keyboard minus opposable thumbs), he’s one worth watching.

Birthday ballet flats.

If you know me, you’ll know I like things that sparkle.

My tastes often border on the ostentatious – but I like to think they only cross the line when appropriate.

I got these gorgeous flats from Zara for my birthday, from my lovely parents. They get quite a few remarks – even from strangers. So that means they’re doing pretty well in my books.

A sketch a day keeps the cobwebs away.

I’ve always wanted to find that happy medium between stalker-esque street style photography, and giving excellent outfits the respect they deserve.

I also always wanted to be an illustator, but with very little talent for drawing, and fairly basic skills in Photoshop, this was never going to become an eventuality.

So I think I’ve worked it out.

I have a pretty good photographic memory. So rather than carting a camera around and asking random strangers to take their photo, I have now decided I can simply sketch them surrepitiously for future reference.

I might not capture a likeness, but I’ll get the facts. And that’s all you need really.

So here’s my sketch for today: a girl I saw on the train (it’s always the train!) yesterday.

She looked great, and was working the whole “office attire in 30+ degree heat” thing well. A navy blue neoprene dress (neoprene is something I have warmed to recently coincidently, it’s also great for warm weather) and really nice black wedges (I’m sure I recognised them, but couldn’t guess a brand – sorry).

But what capped it off was the moment she turned around and I saw her brilliantly vibrant red lipstick. It really pulled the whole thing together. The combination of this, and her gorgeous ginger hair, with a choppy fringe was just sah good. (Yes I’m pro-ginger).
